Kartiot Eivät Ole Sitä Miltä Näyttävät - The Cones Are Not What They Seem

Njääh, Sirdarbambutakki on vasta tässä vaiheessa. Ei pieni mieli tajunnut, että lisälankaa saattaa joutua tilaamaan. Olin siis pari päivää bambutta.
Päätin jättää sivusaumat pois tästäkin takista.

Sirdar bamboo cardi has been resting for two days, because the yarn had to be ordered. A thought that the LYS would carry this colour was wishful thinking.
I decided to leave side seams off from this cardi, too.


Otsikko viittaa mystiseen lankavarastooni. Bambun puutteessa kaivoin esille kartiolankojani ja totesin että epäkiinnostavat, kolhot kartiot kätkevät sisäänsä ihan työstettäviä, pehmeitä laatuja.
Tässä kartiossa asuu slubi/moulinétyyppinen kesälanka, nm 3,5. Hmmm.
Mitä se tekee juoksumetreissä?
Puuvillaa 93%, 7% akryyliä. Kaksinkerroin neulottuna 4 1/2 puikoilla tiheys 18sx26krs 10 cm:llä. Koetan tyytyä löysempään neulokseen kuin tavallisesti.

The title, besides Twin Peaks, refers to my mystical cone stash. When left without nothing to knit, I dived into it and realized that a great many of the cones offer knitable, soft types of yarn.
This cone is inhabited by an uneven mouliné, 93%cotton, 7% acryl, nm 3,5. What´s the equivalent in lenght/weight? Anyone?
After swatching the proper gauge seems like 18st x 26 rows per 10cms with needles #4 1/2.
This time I try to settle with a less dense knit than usually.


Mustavalkoista kesävaatetusta täydentämään ajattelin kartiolangasta väsätä tämmöisen jakun, joka tämän kevään Filati Handstrick-lehdessä on toteutettu tosi kauniista pellavanvärisestä Lana Grossan Fragolasta.
Olen näitä kietaisumalleja vähän vierastanut, ajatellut että kaitalekerrokset keskikohdalla eivät pue kuin kuvan kaltaisia langanlaihoja mallityppejä. Kokeillaan nyt, saahan ne pois ja jotain muuta tilalle jos kovin kapaloidulta näyttää.

To be executed from the cone yarn and to complement my black&white summer garderobe I picked this jacket, presented this spring in Filati Handstrick mag from a beautiful linen shade of Lana Grossa Fragola.
So far I've got zero wrap style clothing. I've been afraid that the extra wrapped layers around midriff do look good only on these skinny rabbits called models.
Now I'm ready to take the plunge, the binding can alway be substituted with less obvious solutions as far as closure goes.

And the sleeve inspector is busy doing her job.
Sleeves have a portion of textured pattern bearing close resemblance to the trinity stitch.



Hyvin tehdyn työn jälkeen voi rentoutua lukemalla.
Ja tietenkin ottamalla pienet päikkärit.

After the job well done one can relax with a good book.
And a nap is always recommended.

Pandaa Ylle - Wearing Panda

Tässä siis bambulankatakki, jonka sain viikko sitten valmiiksi. Malli on huhtikuun Sandrasta ja lanka Wolle Rödelin bambulankaa. Puikot 4 1/2. Noudatin ohjetta melko tarkkaan, vain sivusauman jätin pois - mielestäni mallineuletta oli turha katkaista.
Mitä tekisin toisin: hihoja pidentäisin ja vähän leventäisin, tällaisenaan ne ovat vähän nysät, vartalo-osan ollessa laatikkomainen.
Kesäisenä asusteena ihan OK.

This is the bamboo cardi that was finished last weekend. Pattern is from April Sandra and the yarn is Panda from Wolle Rödel. I used circular needle # 4 1/2. I followed the pattern, only leaving the sides seams off - no need to disturb the knit pattern.
What would I alter: I would make the sleeves a bit longer and wider, they're a bit snug now, the bodice being of a boxy type.
As a summer accessory it'll do.

Tällainen tiedote on Verenan nettisivulla. Mistähän mahtaa olla kyse? Toivottavasti lehden jatko ei ole vaarassa. Mielestäni kyseinen aviisi on hinta-laatusuhteeltaan ylivoimainen lajissaan.

For technical reasons we're not going to see a summer issue of Verena. What might those reasons be? I hope this is not the beginning of the end of this great mag, IMHO it gives the most bang for the buck.

Sitä Saa Mitä Tilaa - Getting What You Wished

Halusin jotain erilaista, tyylikästä, jotain jossa bambunauhalangan laskeutuvuus pääsisi oikeuksiinsa. Ja sain - jep jep - ihan sitä.
Tämä keskeneräinen kappale ei ole takakappale, ei etukappale, vaan hiha! Ja se painaa jo 180 g joten äkkiä laskien kaavoja katsoen - takki tulee painamaan noin kilon. Että on siinä sitten loimella laskeutumista.
Ja tuo hihan vinous ei johdu kuvakulmasta, vaan keskimmäinen mallineule vetää kieroon.
Kova lanka käy käsille neuloessa. Laitoin itselleni tavoitteen, että olisi vappuun mennessä valmis tämä takki. En oikein usko. Puuh.

I wanted something different, stylish, something that would do the draping bamboo yarn justice - and oh boy did I get it!
This piece in production is not the back, not the front, but the first sleeve! It weighs already 180 grams - with some math the rough estimate for the whole cardi does not say less than a kilo.
There's gonna be some serious drape indeed!
And the the photo is not skewed by ill-situated photographer: the middle pattern does twist.
The yarn has no stretch and it makes knitting a cumbersome task. Hands hurt after few hours.
I set a goal to get this ready by the end of April. We'll see.
