Taxi!

Heinäkuussa aloittelin taksineuletta, joka periaatteessa olisi ollut nopea neulottava, mutta lankacombon puuvillaosuus teki työskentelystä senverran kankeaa, että tein tätä osan silloin, toisen tällöin.
Malli: oma, satulahihan kaavaa tsekkailin jostain ranskalaisesta neulelehdestä, tuntuvat harrastavan sitä aika lailla, ja ihan hyvästä syystä.
Lanka: kartiopuuvilla ja Gjestalin 4-ply 80/20 villa/pa, neulottuna siis yhdessä.
Neule painaa 940 grammaa.
Puikko: 5mm pyörö.
Mallineule: 4o, 4n, hartioissa ainaoikeaa, tiheys resorissa 16sx21krs. Ainaoikeassa enemmän kerroksia, ei voi tarkistaa juuri nyt sillä assari on syvässä unessa sylissäni.

In July I started this sweater for a guy who intends to drive a taxi as a part-time job. My operated hand allowed the knitting to proceed only bit by bit, otherwise this would have been a quick job, thanks to relatively thick yarn and needle.
Pattern: my own, checked drafting the saddle shoulder from some French knitting mag, they seem to like it a lot, and for a good reason.
Yarn: an old cotton from the cone plus a 4-ply 80/20 wool/pa blend from Gjestal, knitted together.
The sweater weighs 940 grams.
Needle: 5mm circular.
Gauge: 16stx21rows per 10 cms in k4,p4. Shoulders knitted in garter stitch, which has a greater row count. Can't check it now as the assistant is fast asleep in my lap.




Mitä tekisin toisin: hihoihin muutama sentti lisää ei olisi haitaksi, muuten mitoitus osui aika hyvin; niukahko oli tarkoitus, että mahtuu takin alle tarvittaessa.
Jos "virkapuvun" värirajoitusta ei olisi ollut, ihan pieni lisä jotain kontrastia tekisi terää, vaikka raita toisella olkapäällä, tai klassisesti aloituskerroksissa.
Saaja on tyytyväinen, mikä tärkeintä.

What would I do otherwise: one inch to the sleeve length wouldn't hurt. I wanted this sweater to be rather close-fitting as many jackets and coats don't accommodate thick sweaters.
Hadn't there been the colour restriction, a small dash of contrasting colour would have been nice: maybe a stripe on one shoulder or the classic way, a few rows at the beginning edges.
Most important thing is that the client is satisfied.

Neule, jonka aloitin jo kesäkuussa, on vihdoin valmis.
Malli Phildarin lehdestä 453, ei muutoksia.
Lanka Sublime Cashmere Merino Silk DK , puikot 4, menekki 520 grammaa.
Mitä tekisin toisin: Tähän malliin sopisi ehkä paremmin jokin karheampi ja napakampi lanka. Sublime on ihanan pehmeää ja utuista, saa nähdä kuinka se kestää käytössä. Värihän tähän lankaan houkutti: kaurapuuroa!
Malli oli hauska tehdä, pitsikuviot sopivan mielenkiintoisia mutteivät puuduttavia. Takakappale ja vasen etukappale ovat suoraa resoria, joten ne saattoi pistellä melkein silmät kiinni.
Katselen tuota alempaa pitsikolmiota, annanko sen lepattaa ja liekottaa vai laitanko senkin hakaneulalla kuriin.

The cardi I started knitting already in June is finished at last. The pattern is from Phildar mag 453. No changes were made.
The yarn is Sublime Cashmere Merino Silk DK , needles #4, the cardi weighs 520 grams.
What would I do otherwise: Maybe some other yarn with more "woolly" texture would suit this pattern better. I was lured by the oatmeal colour, let's see how Sublime stands for wear and tear.
The lace parts added interest to knitting, back and left front were plain sailing with knit2 purl2.
The lower lace triangle flounces somewhat. Maybe I'll tame it with another safety pin. I know it's more stylish like this.




Tässä postauksessa esittelin Porin tuliaisiani, Bomullia Lavikosta. Nyt siitä lähti raitapaita tulemaan. Kokeilin mallitilkulle tapaa neuloa joustimessa ensimmäinen uuden värin raitakerros oikeaa, jotta vaihtokohta olisi siistimpi. Tilkun nurja puoli sitten näyttääkin krouvimmalta, melkein mielenkiintoisemmalta.
Voi miksen ostanut vaan näitä kahta väriä tarpeeksi paitaan. Harmaata ja ruskeaa, mmmmm...

In this previous posting I showed yarns bought when visiting a yarn shop Lavikko in Pori.
Striped sweater in on needles now. When swatching I tried a way to knit the first row of new colour instead of knit&purl to make the transition more defined.
The purl side of the swatch looks actually more interesting.
Oh why did I not buy only these two colours to make a sweater.
Gray and brown, mmmm....

Edellisen postauksen sukkia kommentoineille kiitoksia. Jotkut epäilivät, ettei malli sopisi kurvikkaammille pohkeille. Ohje on kuitenkin niin helppo, että mallikerran tai kahden lisääminen sukan yläosaan ei ole konsti eikä mikään - kavennuksia sitten vähän enemmän ennen nilkkaa.

Thanks for those who commented my Kilt Hosen in previous posting. Some them wondered whether this pattern would accommodate curvier calves. I think it would be easy to shape the socks by adding one or two repeats when starting the sock and decreasing more often before ankle.

Väärät sukat - Wrong Stockings

Jiihaa, Folk Sockseista Nancyn Scottische Kilt Hosenit valmistuivat.

Lanka: Regia Silk
Menekki: 136 grammaa
Puikko: pyörö 2 1/2, tiheys sileässä 32s = 10cm
Apinoin tässä Terhiä, hän teki vastaavat kevättalvella.
Ohje oli miesten sukille, mutta tiheys Regia Silkissä vastasi täysin ohjeen lankaa, silmukkamäärät täsmäävät - en ymmärrä kuinka nämä mahtuisivat vaikkapa jonkun potkupallistin hyvinkehittyneiden pohkeiden ympärille?
Poimin kantapään reunasta 16 s:n sijaan 20 ja kiilakin jatkui siis pidemmälle. Syy: minulla on rintava pullajalka ja näin sille on tilaa paremmin..
Pitsikuviossa "yo, ssk" tuotti paljon suuremman reiän kuin "k2tog, yo", vaikka yritin tätä tasata neuloessa. Pöh.
Arvio: saa nähdä miten pysyvät ylhäällä, käänteen alla olevasta resorista huolimatta.
Mitä tekisin toisin: lanka tuntuu vähän epämääräiseltä, nuhraantui jo neuloessa. Maanantaierä?
Väri on ihana tumma harmaa.
Malli on hauska, eri vaiheet pitävät mielenkiinnon yllä.
Nämä olivat ensimmäiset polvisukkani ja haluaisin nyt tehdä jotkut toiset, ja ehdottomasti ohuesta langasta. Sukkakirjoissa polvareita on kuitenkin kovin vähän.
Olen keräillyt ohjekirjoja, viimeksi Charlene Schurchin Sensational Socksit, mutta niissä kaikki ovat töpövarrella.
Ehdotuksia?

Yarn: Regia Silk
Weight: 136 grams
A circular needle, # 2 1/2, giving a gauge of 32st in 10cm
I imitated Terhi, she knitted these in March.
The pattern was for men's size and the gauge matched that of the pattern. I do not understand how these would fit a man's calf?
Because my foot has a high instep I picked 20 st instead of 16 at the heel flap side, and the gusset grew longer, too.
In the lace pattern"yo, ssk" produced a bigger hole than "k2tog, yo" no matter how I tried to even the stitches. Bah.
Let's see how these stockings stay up, there is a rib underneath the folded cuff but still...
I love the colour of the yarn, charcoal grey, but the quality seems dubious, the surface began to look untidy already when knitting.
The pattern was variable enough to keep the ennui at bay.
These were my first knee length socks/stockings and I'd really like to knit a fresh pair with another pattern, and using same type of thin yarn as here. I've been gathering sock pattern books, most lately those of Charlene Schurch,
but there are very few knee-length versions.
Any suggestions?



Oi tätä onnea: sain kerrankin Vogue Knittingin silloin kuin muutkin tilaajat! Ja tässä numerossa on sisältöä. Mielenkiintoisa artikkeleja - koskahan suomalaisissa lehdissä?
Toteuttamiskelpoisista malleista on jopa runsaudenpulaa - yllä mielestäni kauneimpia. Tosin muutama ysäriteltta olisi saanut jäädä suloiseen unhoon...

My lucky day was Thursday: I received my subscribed copy of Vogue Knitting!
There are many interesting features that I often miss when reading Finnish craft mags, also patterns in abundance, and quite knittable, too, just look at the two pictured above.
Although a couple of knitted tents from 1990's gave me the creeps. Well, different strokes for different folks.
