Kartiot Eivät Ole Sitä Miltä Näyttävät - The Cones Are Not What They Seem

Njääh, Sirdarbambutakki on vasta tässä vaiheessa. Ei pieni mieli tajunnut, että lisälankaa saattaa joutua tilaamaan. Olin siis pari päivää bambutta.
Päätin jättää sivusaumat pois tästäkin takista.

Sirdar bamboo cardi has been resting for two days, because the yarn had to be ordered. A thought that the LYS would carry this colour was wishful thinking.
I decided to leave side seams off from this cardi, too.


Otsikko viittaa mystiseen lankavarastooni. Bambun puutteessa kaivoin esille kartiolankojani ja totesin että epäkiinnostavat, kolhot kartiot kätkevät sisäänsä ihan työstettäviä, pehmeitä laatuja.
Tässä kartiossa asuu slubi/moulinétyyppinen kesälanka, nm 3,5. Hmmm.
Mitä se tekee juoksumetreissä?
Puuvillaa 93%, 7% akryyliä. Kaksinkerroin neulottuna 4 1/2 puikoilla tiheys 18sx26krs 10 cm:llä. Koetan tyytyä löysempään neulokseen kuin tavallisesti.

The title, besides Twin Peaks, refers to my mystical cone stash. When left without nothing to knit, I dived into it and realized that a great many of the cones offer knitable, soft types of yarn.
This cone is inhabited by an uneven mouliné, 93%cotton, 7% acryl, nm 3,5. What´s the equivalent in lenght/weight? Anyone?
After swatching the proper gauge seems like 18st x 26 rows per 10cms with needles #4 1/2.
This time I try to settle with a less dense knit than usually.


Mustavalkoista kesävaatetusta täydentämään ajattelin kartiolangasta väsätä tämmöisen jakun, joka tämän kevään Filati Handstrick-lehdessä on toteutettu tosi kauniista pellavanvärisestä Lana Grossan Fragolasta.
Olen näitä kietaisumalleja vähän vierastanut, ajatellut että kaitalekerrokset keskikohdalla eivät pue kuin kuvan kaltaisia langanlaihoja mallityppejä. Kokeillaan nyt, saahan ne pois ja jotain muuta tilalle jos kovin kapaloidulta näyttää.

To be executed from the cone yarn and to complement my black&white summer garderobe I picked this jacket, presented this spring in Filati Handstrick mag from a beautiful linen shade of Lana Grossa Fragola.
So far I've got zero wrap style clothing. I've been afraid that the extra wrapped layers around midriff do look good only on these skinny rabbits called models.
Now I'm ready to take the plunge, the binding can alway be substituted with less obvious solutions as far as closure goes.

And the sleeve inspector is busy doing her job.
Sleeves have a portion of textured pattern bearing close resemblance to the trinity stitch.



Hyvin tehdyn työn jälkeen voi rentoutua lukemalla.
Ja tietenkin ottamalla pienet päikkärit.

After the job well done one can relax with a good book.
And a nap is always recommended.

Pandaa Ylle - Wearing Panda

Tässä siis bambulankatakki, jonka sain viikko sitten valmiiksi. Malli on huhtikuun Sandrasta ja lanka Wolle Rödelin bambulankaa. Puikot 4 1/2. Noudatin ohjetta melko tarkkaan, vain sivusauman jätin pois - mielestäni mallineuletta oli turha katkaista.
Mitä tekisin toisin: hihoja pidentäisin ja vähän leventäisin, tällaisenaan ne ovat vähän nysät, vartalo-osan ollessa laatikkomainen.
Kesäisenä asusteena ihan OK.

This is the bamboo cardi that was finished last weekend. Pattern is from April Sandra and the yarn is Panda from Wolle Rödel. I used circular needle # 4 1/2. I followed the pattern, only leaving the sides seams off - no need to disturb the knit pattern.
What would I alter: I would make the sleeves a bit longer and wider, they're a bit snug now, the bodice being of a boxy type.
As a summer accessory it'll do.

Tällainen tiedote on Verenan nettisivulla. Mistähän mahtaa olla kyse? Toivottavasti lehden jatko ei ole vaarassa. Mielestäni kyseinen aviisi on hinta-laatusuhteeltaan ylivoimainen lajissaan.

For technical reasons we're not going to see a summer issue of Verena. What might those reasons be? I hope this is not the beginning of the end of this great mag, IMHO it gives the most bang for the buck.

Sitä Saa Mitä Tilaa - Getting What You Wished

Halusin jotain erilaista, tyylikästä, jotain jossa bambunauhalangan laskeutuvuus pääsisi oikeuksiinsa. Ja sain - jep jep - ihan sitä.
Tämä keskeneräinen kappale ei ole takakappale, ei etukappale, vaan hiha! Ja se painaa jo 180 g joten äkkiä laskien kaavoja katsoen - takki tulee painamaan noin kilon. Että on siinä sitten loimella laskeutumista.
Ja tuo hihan vinous ei johdu kuvakulmasta, vaan keskimmäinen mallineule vetää kieroon.
Kova lanka käy käsille neuloessa. Laitoin itselleni tavoitteen, että olisi vappuun mennessä valmis tämä takki. En oikein usko. Puuh.

I wanted something different, stylish, something that would do the draping bamboo yarn justice - and oh boy did I get it!
This piece in production is not the back, not the front, but the first sleeve! It weighs already 180 grams - with some math the rough estimate for the whole cardi does not say less than a kilo.
There's gonna be some serious drape indeed!
And the the photo is not skewed by ill-situated photographer: the middle pattern does twist.
The yarn has no stretch and it makes knitting a cumbersome task. Hands hurt after few hours.
I set a goal to get this ready by the end of April. We'll see.

Bam-Bam

Bambupanda on ihan vihonviimeisessä vaiheessa, huomenna koetan kuvata sitä itse tai mahdollisesti puolihalutonta varakuvaajaa käyttäen.
Mielestäni neuleesta saa parhaan käsityksen, kun se on kuvattu käyttäjän/mallin/jonkun päällä. Yritän parhaani mukaan saada blogiini mahdollisimman informatiivista kuvasisältöä, taiteellisen vaikutelman tästä ehkä joskus kärsien.

PandaBamboo cardi is just about to get finished, I'll try to do the photo shoot tomorrow, either by myself or with a semi-reluctant photographer.
I think that a knit should be presented when worn by its owner/model/somebody. I wish to include in my blog visual content as informative as possible, even if it might cause the artsy side to suffer.



Yllä oleva kuva on Lana Grossan Cotone1-mallilehdestä. Aloitan neuloa Sirdarin Just Bamboosta tätä, hieman ohjetta muokkaamalla. Muutan tuon hihanistutuksen kimonohihasta väljäksi versioksi istutetusta sellaisesta.
Vähän tässä mallissa askarruttaa sovellettu empirelinja. Sehän on vaatteen juju, enkä aio poistaa nyöriviritystä. Mutta...miltä tuollainen näyttää, jos kuppikoko on muutaman kirjaimen B:tä suurempi? Äitiysvaatteelta? Entä mahtaako mitoitus sallia ylipäätään tuon miehustaosion venymisen korkeussuunnassa? Kokoina ohjeessa on 38-40 ja 44-46, joista tuon pienemmän aion tehdä. Normaalisti koon pitäisi riittää vallan mainiosti.
Pitäisikö etukappaleelle tehdä kuitenkin eräänlainen "muotolaskos", eli lisätä etupituutta neuloen lyhennettyjä kerroksia heti tuon nyörin yläpuolelle?


The photo above is from Lana Grossa Cotone1-magazine. I'm beginning to knit this from Sirdar Just Bamboo with some modifications. The sleeve shall be fitted instead of this straight kimono style.
The empire waist makes me worried. It is the clou of this knit and the cord should not be left out.
But what if the person wearing this has a cup size onward the alphabets?
A maternity dress is not what I'm aiming for. Does the front piece stretch over the bosom? The pattern offers sizes 38-40 and 44-46, of which I knit the smaller one. Normally it would be enough.
Should I still consider knitting short rows just above the cord to make a vertical allowance?

Feather and fan should have been made separately, it distorts the swatch somewhat.
Like the effect a lot, it's fun to start the pieces with it.
Sleeves, here I come with the Golden Addi number 4!

Kesytin Alpakkamörvelön - I Tamed the Alpaca Monster

Sandnesin liivi Alpakasta.
Alkoi melkoisena mörvelönä. Päätyi kuitenkin kelpo liiviksi.
Painoa 296g. Puikot 3 ja 31/2.
Tätä on melkein pakko käyttää näin vyön kanssa, epäpukevasti roikkuu nuo pitsipanelit muuten. Ohut solmittava vyö voisi olla myös sopiva. Lankaa jäi vain pari metriä, joten tuskin tulee ostettua pelkkää vyölankaa.

At first I did not like the lace at all, it looked like a total mesh. In the end - well, wearable anyway.
Knitted with 3 and 31/2 needles. It weighs 296 grams.
I think this has to be worn with a belt. A thin knitted one could look nice, too. There was only two yards of yarn left, probably I'll never buy a new ball just for the belt.



Sitten uusiin seikkailuihin - ruskea bambutakki on kainaloissa menossa, neulon etu-ja takakappaleet yhdessä. Lankaa oli 600 gr, riittää, mutta kovin paljoa ei jää yli.
Mielessä pyörii jo seuraava projekti, Sirdarin vaaleansininen bambulanka voi päätyä yhdeksi LanaGrossan malliksi. Jotenkin tuntuu, että mielen pitää olla askeleen edellä käsiä.
Kun meneillään oleva neule päätyy kastelu/neulaus/odotusvaiheeseen, on seuraavan suunnitelmat hyvä olla jo meneillään, jotta voi siirtyä jouhevasti sitä neulomaan.
Suorituspaineita? Ei tämä sitä ole.
Tyhjien käsien kammo? Ehkä.

New goal set - brown bamboo cardi is knit up to armpits, I'm knitting the front and back pieces as one, without side seams. I have 600 grms of yarn, it'll be just enough.
Next project is already on my mind. Bamboo yarn from Sirdar might end up as one Lana Grossa cardi.
Somehow I feel that my mind has to be a step ahead of my hands.
When the work in progress is on blocking/waiting stage, the next knit should be already well planned so that it can be started without delay.
Stress? No, it does not feel like that.
Fear of empty hands? Maybe.

Malibu Maalissa - Malibu In the End

Sain taistojen jälkeen vihdoinkin tämän Malibu-laukun valmiiksi: kahvat, vuori, sisätaskut, vetskari, kiinnitys päälliosaan käsinommellen.
Virkkuuseen meni ihan vähän vajaa 200 g:aa Novitan Malibua, 50%CO/50%PE. Vuoriin tarvittiin pieni määrä puuvillakangasta. Vetoketju on vähän liian tuhti tällaiseen pieneen laukkuun, ja osoittautui liian pitkäksi. Sopiva pituus olisi ollut 22 cm. Jouduin katkaisemaan tämän ja leikkuukohta jäi aika jäykäksi tuohon vuorinkiinnityssaumaan. Lyhempi olisi taas tiennyt pahannäköisiä aukkoja kumpaankin päähän. Oma mittavirhe, olisi täytynyt alun pitäen virkata vähän leveämpi laukku.

After all the struggles the Malibu tote is finished: handles, lining, inner pockets, zipper and attaching the lining by hand sewing.
The crochet part took almost 200grs of Novita Malibu, which is 50%CO/50%PE. Lining was made of a calico fat quarter. The zipper is a bit too heavy for such a small tote, and was also found too long. The proper length should have been 22 cm. I had to cut this and it caused a rigid bump at the hand sewn seam. A shorter zipper would have left holes to the ends of the zipper opening. My mistake, should I have crocheted a few cm wider tote, this problem hadn't arisen.


Prosessi oli siis ryhmyinen mutta opettava. Seuraavan laukun tekoon olen jo paljon viisaampi.
Luovutan maanantaina tämän saajalleen.
Alpakkamörvelöstäkin kehkeytyi - jollei nyt ihan perhonen - mutta ihan siedettävä vaatekappale. Kuvat odottavat ottamista.

The process of making this tote was winding and thus educating. I'm prepared and wiser when the next tote calls.
This one will be delivered next Monday to its future owner.
Alpaca monster turned out to be, if not quite a butterfly, but a decent piece of apparel anyway.

Oravannahkoja? - Squirrel Hides?

Hiljaista blogissa, mutta tohinaa muuten.
Keskeneräiset työt vaivaavat, en tykkää että asiat roikkuu. Silti uudet projektit pyörii mielessä ah-niin houkuttelevasti. Suvantovaiheitakin täytyy olla.
Mutta vaikka kuinka neuloo, ei rauhaa saa. Valmista ei tule. Uutta lankaa pukkaa.

Quiet blogwise, some action in real life.
UFOs/WIPs bother, I do not like unfinished things. I can't help new projects budding, though. There should be times when You feel at ease, shouldn't there?
But no matter how much You knit, it's never done. New yarn emerge out of thin air.



Ehkä näistä valmistuu sukat kuitenkin vasta ensi talvelle. Apinoin Terhiä ja teen Nancy Bush-kilttipolvarit Regia Silkistä.
Aivan identtisiä näistä ei tule, sillä väri on mustan sijaan tumma harmaa. Siinäkin on näkemistä ohuella langalla ja tarkalla pitsikuviolla.

For next fall: 150g Regia Silk will become socks a la Nancy Bush, Highland Scottische Kilt Hose. Thanks to Terhi at Mustaa Villaa for the inspiration.
Terhi's socks were black, I chose dark grey. Thin yarn plus lace - my eyesight is not what it used to be.


Nämä eivät ole oravannahkoja kuivumassa vaan bambupandalankaiset hihat kasteltuna ja mittoihinsa aseteltuna. Haluan tarkistaa neuletiheyden ja päättää vartalo-osan silmukkamäärän vasta sitten. Neulon etu-ja takakappaleet yhtäkyytiä ilman sivusaumoja , sillä tässä mallineuleessa ne näkyisivät aika rumasti.

No, there are no squirrel hides hanging on my wall. These are sleeves of bamboo Panda yarn, soaked and blocked. I want to check the gauge before deciding the exact number of stitches for front and back pieces, which will be knitted in one piece. I don't think side seams add to the looks of this pattern.
